Tangram – Wooden Brain Teaser Puzzle

TheTangram(also known as “Seven Boards Of Skill”, “7TrickyPieces”, “7CleverPieces”, and “Chinese Puzzle”)isa dissection puzzle consistingof7 flatshapes, calledTANS,which are put together to form differentshapes. The objective of the puzzle is to form a specific shape (given only an outline or silhouette) using all sevenpieces (pieces maynotoverlap).It is reputed to have been inventedin China during the Song dynasty (was an era of Chinese history that began in 960 and continued until 1279), andthen carried overto Europebytrading ships in the early19thcentury. It became very popular in Europe for a time, and then againduring World War I. Itis one of the most popular dissection puzzles in the world. AChinese psychologist has termedthe Tangram “the earliest psychological test in the world”, albeit one made for entertainment rather than for analysis.

The Tangram challenges the puzzler to produce a given silhouette using all 7 pieces. We provide 42 different shape options for you to start with (enclosed booklet) and you can find many more online.
